There are 3 phases of caring for your mom, and you will do all three, barring her untimely demise. The first is informal, the second is Power of Attorney, and the third is Legal Guardianship. This podcast focuses on strengths/weaknesses of informally caring for mom or dad. It is easy, creates no legal or moral authority for you (other than being a good child, doing your best to help), but leads to frustration as your mom worsens. And because you had no agreement with mom upfront, and no plan with your siblings who would do what for her when THAT TIME gets here (it is here, now), you are stuck. The thing about informal care: you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make mom drink. But what to do when it gets serious--she refuses to go to hospital, he wants to marry a Russian gold digger online, they give away their money to TV preachers....what to do next, to "make" them do what you say? Stay tuned
