Withdrawal is process of cutting out, or cutting back on, addictive substances. Also called ‘detoxification’, or ‘detox’. Often triggered in aged by going into nursing home, or rehab post-surgery, as now they are monitored on medication usage, and do not have access to alcohol at home.

Your mom may have a physical or psychological dependence on prescribed drug or alcohol. If physical dependence, her body will rely on taking the drug to feel normal. If she stops, she will have withdrawal symptoms.
